Students stroll across the United Arab Emirates University campus on a warm afternoon in Al Ain, phones in hand and backpacks slung low. Until you hear someone discussing orbital mechanics, asteroid trajectories, and spacecraft subsystems, it appears to be just another typical university day. The horizon seems farther away now that the UAE University has launched a program in Interplanetary Systems Engineering.

The new program comes at a time when the nation’s aspirations in space are no longer merely symbolic. The Hope Probe’s voyage to Mars continues to be a source of pride for the country, and the Emirates Mission to the Asteroid Belt is already under development. This academic shift is perceived as being more about preparation than prestige. Engineers who comprehend not only rockets but entire systems functioning millions of kilometers away from home will be necessary if the UAE intends to operate spacecraft beyond Mars.

UAE University Opens Interplanetary Systems Engineering Program

The National Space Science and Technology Center on campus doesn’t stand out as you pass it. However, satellite mock-ups, calibration benches, and cleanroom procedures inside point to a subtly somber situation. The university recently finished getting ready to launch Al Ain Sat-1, a small CubeSat intended to further research on remote sensing. That small, accurate, and purposeful milestone feels like a stepping stone toward much larger goals.

Perhaps the next logical step is to enroll in the Interplanetary Systems Engineering program. This track, in contrast to conventional aerospace degrees, places an emphasis on integrated thinking, including planetary science, communications, propulsion, remote sensing, and mission management. According to faculty, it is intentionally multidisciplinary, incorporating knowledge from fields such as science, engineering, and even information technology. Students are intentionally trained to be able to switch between simulation software and hardware labs without blinking.

Prior participants in the Space Exploration Research Experience program have already made contributions to actual missions by assisting with spectral data analysis and asteroidal classification. In a recent study, Emirati undergraduates collaborated with researchers from other countries to examine the asteroid (623) Chimaera, which may have water traces. There is a quiet confidence in those students’ presentations that wasn’t as apparent in the academic environment of the United Arab Emirates ten years ago.

But ambition raises issues. Space travel is costly, technically challenging, and complicated from a geopolitical standpoint. Whether the area can support deep-space missions on the same scale as more established spacefaring nations is still up in the air. Building human capital appears to be the first line of defense against dependency, according to investors and policymakers. By reducing reliance on outside expertise, local engineering training gradually improves national capability.

A change in culture is also taking place. Oil and infrastructure shaped the UAE’s early economic history. Asteroid composition and electrostatic discharge training for spacecraft assembly are currently being discussed in classrooms. It seems purposeful, almost symbolic, that evolution. A nation that was previously largely connected to airplanes and skyscrapers is now establishing itself as a contributor to planetary science.

A professor displayed a schematic of a spacecraft’s thermal control system in a lecture hall that had just been transformed for advanced systems modeling. Leaning forward, students discussed ways to protect instruments from the extremes of temperature found in deep space. It’s difficult to ignore their attention. They see interplanetary engineering as a possible career path that is developing in real time, not as something abstract.

According to reports, the program’s design incorporates research-focused projects prior to graduation, demonstrating the conviction that theory alone won’t be adequate. Students might have to simulate asteroid flybys, analyze mission risk scenarios, or even work with foreign space agencies. The university seems to be attempting to connect classroom instruction with the goals of the national mission.

Not all graduates will, of course, go on to build spacecraft. Some will switch to applications in defense, Earth observation, or satellite communications. However, branding is important. A perspective that goes beyond Earth orbit is proposed by Interplanetary Systems Engineering. It conveys assurance, possibly even boldness.

The longer-term exploration plans and enhanced cooperation with international partners are part of the UAE Space Agency’s larger roadmap. That pipeline is intended to be fed by initiatives such as this one. There is a mixture of cautious realism and optimism as this is played out. After all, space programs are measured in decades rather than semesters.

The campus is quiet in the evening light of Al Ain as students make their way to cafes and dorms. Simulations continue to run on screens that glow in the dark somewhere in the engineering labs. The public rarely sees the painstaking, incremental work that goes into it.

However, there is a slight change in viewpoint. Today, a new generation of Emirati students is being trained to design missions that travel to asteroids and beyond, in addition to operating satellites in low Earth orbit. Budgets, politics, and physics will all play a role in whether those missions are successful. However, the groundwork for education is currently being established.

With its propellers slicing through the humid morning air, the drone slowly rose from the edge of a concrete landing pad close to India’s western coastline. Fishermen nearby stopped for a moment as they watched the machine raise a tiny white container, which was said to contain diagnostic samples that would typically take hours to transport by road. Perhaps something more significant than a standard logistics test was caught in that instant. It seemed like a subtle change in the direction of healthcare.

India and the United Arab Emirates have started collaborating on the delivery of medical supplies via coastal drones, establishing a cross-border technological alliance that is influenced as much by ambition as by geography. Both nations have lengthy coastlines that are peppered with ports, islands, and industrial areas—areas where conventional transportation frequently lags due to weather, traffic, and distance. Drones promise to completely circumvent those restrictions by flying directly over water. It’s still unclear if they can do so consistently.

The partnership’s reasoning appears to be simple. Speed is crucial to medical logistics, particularly in emergency situations. According to studies, drones can reduce delivery times by more than half when compared to road vehicles; in some cases, trips that take almost 40 minutes can be shortened to just over 10. Although that distinction might not seem significant at first, it alters the results of diagnostic tests and blood transfusions. It seems as though engineers are attempting to redesign time itself as you watch one of these drones vanish into the distance.

A lot of experimentation has already been done, especially in India. According to reports, businesses like Skye Air Mobility have used drones to make millions of deliveries, boosting investor and hospital confidence. In order to minimize delays brought on by traffic in places like Bengaluru, some hospitals now send blood samples by air rather than by road. Investors appear to think that these initial achievements support expanding the concept, even across international coastal corridors.

India and UAE Partner on Coastal Drone Delivery for Medical Supplies

The United Arab Emirates offers a unique experience. Drone delivery trials have been quietly going on in Dubai for years. Logistics companies have been testing flights that are beyond visual line of sight in both urban and coastal areas. During one of these demonstrations, observers standing close to Dubai’s waterfront reported seeing drones fly with unnerving accuracy along invisible routes that had been programmed long before takeoff. How those systems will manage erratic coastal weather over longer distances is still unknown.

The issue of trust is another.

Deliveries of medical supplies are not typical parcels. They deal with delicate, occasionally life-saving cargo. In response, engineers have created encrypted tracking systems and temperature-controlled containers to guarantee that medical supplies stay stable while in flight. Healthcare professionals waiting on the ground can receive real-time updates from certain drones that can now measure temperature, humidity, and vibration. Although that degree of control implies meticulous preparation, it also creates new risks, such as software malfunctions, signal interruptions, and basic mechanical issues.

Geographically, the partnership is especially intriguing along the coast. Despite contemporary infrastructure, many coastal communities—particularly smaller ports and islands—remain surprisingly remote. Drones can fly straight across the long stretches of roads that wind around bays and estuaries. Drones have the potential to effectively link clinics that have never been connected before.

This project seems to be about more than just medicine.

For many years, India and the United Arab Emirates have been enhancing their economic relations in the areas of trade, technology, and energy. Given our mutual interest in autonomous systems and smart infrastructure, drone logistics fits into that larger relationship. It is evident from hearing officials talk about these plans that they view drones as symbols of technological alignment as well as tools.

However, optimism is accompanied by hesitancy.

Regulations surrounding drone delivery are still unclear, particularly when it comes to international airspace. Safety procedures, emergency protocols, and flight corridors must all be coordinated by aviation authorities. Even minor errors in judgment could be dangerous. While engineers discuss AI navigation and redundancy systems, the weather is still obstinately unpredictable.

The human element comes next.

Healthcare professionals have historically moved supplies in coastal villages using boats, ambulances, and personal networks. Though not flawless, those systems are well-known. Something new is introduced by drones; it’s less tangible and less visible. There seems to be less human involvement as one lands and unceremoniously releases its cargo.

However, the potential is still hard to overlook.

Traffic doesn’t stop drones from flying. At checkpoints, they don’t wait. They move effectively, directly, and almost unconcernedly. This apathy could result in quicker care, quicker responses, and quicker relief for patients who are waiting in remote clinics.

Amidst the vast quiet of the UAE’s Martian-like landscapes, an extraordinary event is taking place. As they train for missions that could eventually span the solar system, humans are being trained not only for survival but also for self-mastery in a new analog ecosystem. It’s not about the show. It all comes down to being prepared.

The habitat was built as part of the ambitious Mars 2117 program and is located inside what is referred to as Mars Science City. Although sci-fi aspirations may be evoked by the name, the design decisions show a purposeful, engineering-first approach. All of the sleeping pods, surfaces, and corridors are controlled environments, and every test replicates the monotony and difficulty of deep space isolation.

Through partnerships with Russian analog teams and NASA, the UAE has incorporated international best practices into a regional training center. Years of analog research have already been conducted by Russia’s SIRIUS program and NASA’s HERA program, and the UAE is learning from taking part. One of the first analog astronauts, Emirati pilot Dr. Shareef Al Romaithi, spent 45 days in a meticulously planned simulation conducted by NASA. Under time pressure and sleep limits, his mission involved lengthy cognitive load testing, VR-based exploration, and fake communication delays. It was surprisingly taxing.

The UAE has changed its role from one of observer to one of contributor through strategic partnerships. Data collecting for mission design is what this is, not only training for experience. Sleep disturbances, heart rate variations, and psychological strain from captivity are all recorded, examined, and fed back into mission planning. These are rehearsal exercises that have actual physiological effects; they are not theoretical exercises.

UAE Announces Mars‑Analog Habitat for Long‑Term Astronaut Training

Analog research has been used by space agencies to gradually push the boundaries of human endurance over the last ten years. The UAE’s entry, however, is especially creative. It has not only embraced simulation but also ingrained it into the academic architecture of the area. Custom monitoring methods and experiment designs are being implemented in the environment by research organizations such as AUS and MBRU. A notable improvement in the quality of experimentation has been brought about by this cross-pollination, where universities meet mission control.

Recently, the focus has shifted to creating long-duration simulations, some of which might go on for up to eight months. That timeline is similar to the anticipated round-trip to Mars. Without immediate assistance, participants must manage resource scarcity, work within strict task structures, and settle disputes. The 20-minute communication delay that simulated Mars-Earth transmissions during one such exercise created a subtle but growing stress. Teams were hesitant. A few people didn’t communicate well. Some adjusted.

The real training is in that stress, which the simulation amplify but which is based on very real human dynamics. It’s more than just planting a flag or operating a rover. It’s about managing boredom, irritation, and interpersonal drift since a broken team cannot be fixed by technology.

The United Arab Emirates has made significant progress in moving away from symbolic milestones and toward functional infrastructure by utilizing analog missions. It makes headlines when a probe is sent to Mars. Developing a training program for human spaceflight requires dedication. This project feels like an anchor—something stable to build from.

This gives younger generations visibility, which is especially good for the area. Foreign space programs are no longer merely watched passively by students. They now form a part of simulation designs, lab builds, and research teams. Additionally, when Mars Science City expands, the amount of data produced locally will only rise.

I remember reading about a test that used virtual reality to help pilot drones over terrain similar to Mars. It appeared to be a tech demo at first. But the importance became clear after a few minutes of navigational mistakes brought on by delays. It had less to do with the drone and more to do with how people adjust to flawed systems—how we become intuitive when accurate instruments fail.

In the next stages, extended simulations will investigate modular architecture, waste recycling, and sustainable life-support—all while undergoing the stress of confinement. In order to build resilient ecosystems, engineers and physicians will collaborate. They will be miniature cities with their own micro-economies, energy loops, and hierarchies for solving problems, rather than merely being sealed boxes.

In the long-term human exploration context, such training is not only essential, but urgent. Analog habitats allow us to practice all the possible outcomes before sending a crew into space. The UAE is setting itself up to be a knowledge producer on future missions rather than only a passenger.

They’re not just dreaming of Mars with this program; they’re measuring it, practicing for it, and getting ready to survive it. Furthermore, that silent preparation might end up being more valuable than any flag planted or selfie taken and sent back to Earth.

The tone of discussions regarding the UAE’s relationship with Saudi Arabia has changed in recent months. What was before characterized as flawless coordination now seems more like a calculated, intentional competition that has been meticulously handled. Although the shift has not been drastic, it has been clearly apparent in trade, diplomacy, and policy.

Abu Dhabi and Riyadh followed remarkably similar paths for years. They frequently put on a united face, supported similar regional activities, and had similar security concerns. Their cooperation seemed incredibly efficient during the 2017 embargo of Qatar, projecting strength and unity.

But as time went on, ambition started to change alignment. An important turning point was marked with the introduction of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, a plan for economic development. Riyadh started establishing itself as a rival as well as a partner to the UAE by utilizing regulatory reform, sovereign wealth, and megaprojects like NEOM.

For its part, the UAE has already established a very effective financial, logistical, and tourism-related ecosystem. The ports and airports in Dubai function like a swarm of bees, with every moving component being well-coordinated, accurate, and very adaptable. Abu Dhabi’s investment funds have grown to be incredibly dependable participants on the international stage, confidently allocating assets to renewable energy and technology.

UAE Saudi Arabia Relations in 2026: Cooperation, Conflict, and the Race for Influence

Trade provides a particularly obvious narrative in the context of this rivalry. Subtle obstacles have surfaced despite the two nations’ yearly bilateral trade exceeding tens of billions of dollars. Saudi Arabia has taken a particularly creative step in its economic assertiveness by requiring businesses vying for state contracts to establish regional offices within the kingdom.

Last year, while listening to a multinational CEO in a Riyadh conference room explain why his company was moving from Dubai, I noticed a subliminal uneasiness beneath his well-chosen words.

The rivalry is not limited to boardrooms. Previously a joint campaign, Yemen saw significant divisions. While the UAE continued to take a tough stance against political Islamist organizations, Saudi Arabia started to place a higher priority on stability and reconciliation. Despite being presented gently, these opposing viewpoints exposed more profound philosophical differences.

Saudi Arabia has indisputable advantages in the economy. It is much larger in terms of land mass. Its populace provides a far larger domestic market, which supports domestic consumption and industrial growth. Riyadh is making significant investments in manufacturing, mining, and renewable energy in an effort to create a very resilient post-oil future.

However, complexity comes with size. Overseeing a 35 million-person population is far more difficult than managing a smaller federation. Because of its leaner organizational structure, the UAE can change course far more quickly and adjust its policies with unexpected effectiveness, according to many experts.

The UAE has significantly increased its attractiveness to international talent over the last ten years by modernizing social policies and relaxing residence regulations. Couples without a spouse may live together. The state supports the creative industry. Even though they have been slow, these changes have been especially helpful in drawing in international businesspeople.

In the meantime, Saudi Arabia is going through a social reorientation of its own. Things that would have appeared unlikely years ago are now commonplace: concerts, movies, even tourist permits. Riyadh is trying to strike a balance that is both ambitious and strategic by changing cultural policy while maintaining religious authority.

Technology is probably going to be the most competitive field in the upcoming years. Both countries are making significant investments in modern manufacturing, sustainable energy, and artificial intelligence. By establishing data infrastructure and automating processes, they are revolutionizing sectors through smart alliances with multinational corporations.

Navigating this dual gravity is frequently a challenge for medium-sized firms operating throughout the Gulf. Businesses must consider market accessibility, incentives, and regulatory clarity when determining where to locate their regional headquarters. The decision is usually quite pragmatic rather than ideological.

Open antagonism is unlikely despite tensions. There is just too much economic connection. Both capitals are seen by international investors, shipping lanes, and oil markets as essential hubs in a common network. Everyone would pay a price for disruption.

A personal dimension is also present. In contrast to previous years, observers often observe that the relationship between Mohammed bin Salman and Mohammed bin Zayed has cooled. Chemistry is important in leadership. Tone can have just as much of an impact in diplomacy as tariffs.

Still, when used constructively, rivalry can be incredibly powerful. Both governments are compelled by competition to innovate, improve programs, and expedite transformation. Saudi Arabia’s infrastructure development has increased dramatically with the introduction of Vision 2030, while the United Arab Emirates has doubled down on revenue stream diversification.

From a wider angle, this dynamic might be quite novel for the Gulf region overall. Parallel modernization movements are taking place in the area rather than stalling under complacency. Airports grow. Tech parks are growing. Renewable energy projects proliferate.

Neutrality is still wise for international partners. Western governments may promote cooperation and stability by interacting with both nations equally. Coordinated trade frameworks, cooperative climate measures, and joint technology corridors might all significantly reduce friction.

Fundamentally, the relationship between the UAE and Saudi Arabia is no longer characterized by straightforward alignment. Ambition—disciplined, forward-thinking, and even competitive ambition—defines it. The rivalry resembles two engines working side by side, each trying to accelerate, rather than a fracture.

This competition has the potential to create an area that is far more resilient, diversified, and strong provided it is handled well.

Certain calendars are just useful. However, the 2026 UAE public holidays calendar reads almost like a meticulously planned score, creating a cadence reminiscent of a masterfully composed symphony while striking a balance between faith, nationalism, and rest. There is breathing room without reducing momentum because of the intentional spacing, which is neither careless nor excessive.

How the dates fall this year has been the practical matter that HR managers, educators, and business owners have been discussing for months. Upon learning that January 1st falls on a Thursday, the response is immediately positive. After the festivities of December, a single day off naturally grows into a long weekend, giving families the opportunity to travel, think, or just relax.

UAE Public Holidays 2026: How the Year’s Official Breaks Shape Travel, Business, and Family Time

In the United Arab Emirates, New Year’s Day has become a social reset that works astonishingly well. Yes, fireworks light up the skyline, but underlying the show, a very distinct sense of common goal is evident. With a noticeably better energy, offices reopen, and workers return feeling rejuvenated rather than hurried.

If the moon is visible, Eid Al Fitr, which is anticipated to occur from March 20 to 22, will take center stage by late March. This time marks the end of Ramadan for Muslim families, who pray, give, and get together. For the general public, it provides an extremely adaptable break that is equally appropriate for introspection or a quick domestic retreat.

It was just after sunrise on an early Eid morning years ago that I was standing outside a mosque in Abu Dhabi, watching neighbors greet each other with silent admiration and a very real warmth.

With the arrival of Arafat Day and Eid Al Adha in quick succession, the calendar then shifts toward late May. Expected on May 26, Arafat Day has a somber tone that invites introspection and contemplation. The three-day celebration of Eid Al Adha, which takes place from May 27 to 29, immediately follows it and honors kindness and selflessness.

Because it efficiently clusters leaves, this sequence is especially advantageous for businesses. The setup enables firms to plan ahead, simplifying processes and freeing up human talent for a real break rather than distributing days over several weeks. Significantly less schedule conflict and noticeably higher morale are the outcomes.

Predictability is important in long-term labor planning. Even though Islamic holidays are based on lunar observation, the UAE framework offers guidelines ahead of time to allow for careful planning. That transparency is crucial for global corporations that operate across time zones.

The anticipated Islamic New Year is June 16. In contrast to the countdowns in January, this changeover feels somber and contemplative. Reminding locals that rejuvenation doesn’t need loudness, the day’s peaceful nature is especially inventive in a culture that is frequently characterized by obvious momentum.

The Prophet Muhammad’s birthday, which is celebrated on August 25, provides another midweek break by late August. Offices and schools are slowly slowing down. Talk shifts to legacy, compassion, and character. It is a celebration whose meaning seems remarkably resilient, surviving generations while staying shockingly current.

Excitement for December grows as the year goes on. The emotional focal point of the calendar is still UAE National Day, which falls on December 2 and 3. Flags fly in the streets, kids wave banners from car windows, while drones create glowing patterns in the night sky.

National Day festivities have accelerated and become much more elaborate in the last ten years, but the spirit is remarkably the same as in previous years: solidarity, thankfulness, and hope. The official theme, Spirit of the Union, which links contemporary accomplishments with the founding ideal, still strikes a particularly poignant chord.

These public holidays are more than just formalities for locals. They are indicators of a sense of community. Those who live abroad frequently express sincere appreciation for National Day, saying that the festivities are inclusive rather than exclusive.

A common problem for medium-sized enterprises is striking a balance between worker well-being and production. The UAE public holidays schedule for 2026 effectively tackles this issue. Long weekends that are both restorative and affordable are produced by arranging national holidays in the middle of the week and clustering religious observances.

During the epidemic, millions of people worldwide adopted remote work as the norm, which changed their expectations regarding flexibility. The UAE’s planned holiday schedule seems especially forward-looking in that larger context. This indicates that rest is an integral part of sustained growth rather than an afterthought.

Previously complex scheduling has been greatly simplified by policymakers by bringing public and private sector leave into alignment. Since it was implemented in prior years, the modification has proven to be very effective, making compliance easier for HR departments and guaranteeing equity across industries.

There is a slight economic component as well. Hotels, airlines, and small companies benefit from the frequent surge in domestic travel that occurs during the Eid and National Day holidays. Staycations are now shockingly inexpensive because to the introduction of promotional travel programs, which encourage locals to visit other emirates.

Instead of feeling like a disorganized collection of dates, the calendar feels more like a well-kept garden when viewed as a whole. Every holiday, whether its origins are in federation or faith, adds to a very clear story: progress flourishes when rest is observed.

The Fazaa Family Initiative has a certain understated effectiveness. There were no grandstanding pronouncements or theatrical unveilings, only the quiet introduction of a support system intended to bridge the gaps in the daily realities of Emirati family life. That tone of purpose says a lot.

It started at the 2026 World Governments Summit with a signature. The Ministry of Family and the Ministry of the Interior signed a pact that may have been considered ordinary because they had similar goals. However, it wasn’t. It signaled a change from discrete benefit plans to a comprehensive, dignity-first framework that upholds family structures.

The Silver, Gold, and Platinum membership tiers are more than simply labels. They are scaffolding. Silver status is given to a married couple who are childless, subtly emphasizing the potential and fragility of that early stage. Gold-tier support is available to those with three children—material incentives for their dedication. Also, Platinum level provides extended discounts, vehicle access, and service flexibility for families with four or more children or those with a determination-related need.

The practicality, not the classification, is the genius. The advantages spread to all facets of daily life through smart collaborations. lower insurance costs. accessible modes of transportation. offers for preferential home rentals. even consumer items and leisure benefits. The scope is remarkably wide, but remarkably well-organized.

Fazaa Family Program Launches New Support Model for Emirati Households

Family systems have been under additional strain during the last ten years due to demographic changes, economic challenges, and digitization. Fazaa provides layered, responsive support to meet that weight, and it does it astonishingly well. It makes no pretense of relieving stress. Rather, it more evenly redistributes it.

Last month, I observed a young woman scanning her Fazaa card at the reception of a family clinic in Sharjah one morning. She gave the receptionist a smile and muttered something about how happy she was that this week’s grocery budget wouldn’t be affected by the pediatric appointment. That moment stayed with me.

The Fazaa network is imbedded, not forced, throughout over 34,000 establishments, ranging from tiny neighborhood retailers to bigger service providers. It is quite effective because of this. Instead of making families adjust to Emirati life, it fits along with it.

When houses turned into offices, classrooms, sick bays, and sanctuaries during the epidemic, it became abundantly evident that public policy needed to shift its focus to domestic cohesiveness. Perhaps the most obvious outcome of that reconsideration is Fazaa’s 2026 iteration. Reduced red tape. closer.

Through cooperation with the Ministry of Family, Fazaa adopted a more profound emotional reasoning. Its advantages are now presented as socially beneficial rather than only pecuniary. They safeguard the family’s routines. They recognize that sustaining intergenerational relationships, caring for aging parents, or raising children merits more than just lip service.

This effort will be the focus of a nationwide awareness campaign in the upcoming months. It will include actual families in authentic environments, demonstrating the unique fabric of the UAE’s social policy—its capacity to combine desire and pragmatism. It won’t just be billboards or slogans.

Fazaa is also normalizing the story of big families by providing incentives that seem necessary rather than just earned through its Platinum membership tier. For example, having preferred access to larger cars is practical for hospital visits and school runs, not a luxury.

The focus on autonomy in this iteration of Fazaa is a notable improvement. Members decide how to participate. They are not exclusive to programs that are overly administered. Rather, the framework is highly adaptable and operates more like a loyalty program that incentivizes involvement in the development of the country.

Additionally, it interacts retailers and service providers with a certain amount of strategic subtlety. Partners are encouraged but not required. That fosters sustainability and goodwill. I’ve seen more signs with the Fazaa insignia in businesses lately; they’re quiet yet assured.

Fazaa guarantees the model remains cost-effective without sacrificing accessibility by utilizing the infrastructure that is already in place. Without being drawn into the urban bureaucracy, an extended household in Abu Dhabi or a tiny family in Fujairah can enjoy the same fundamental advantages.

The Gold tier provides balance for medium-sized families, which are frequently disregarded in binary welfare models. Not overly restricted. Not overly stretched. Relief should be precisely targeted at the areas of nourishment, transportation, and education.

This initiative’s philosophical reach is more encouraging than its pecuniary reach. It makes the assumption that, with the right resources, people desire to be active members of society, build strong families, and contribute.

Critics will exist. While some may argue that cash-based perks are preferable, others may doubt the membership-driven models’ long-term return on investment. However, these criticisms frequently overlook the goal. The goal of Fazaa is to create ecosystems of belonging, not to replace revenue.

Families’ attitudes have changed since the start of this updated program. There is less discussion of coping and more discussion of planning. Though small, such alteration is incredibly telling.

Fazaa unveils a new form of government that is sensitive to the finer details of everyday life, emotionally intelligent, and soft-touch. It makes no attempt to change families. It makes an effort to meet people where they are.

She didn’t wait for the construction of a classroom. She created one out of streets that hardly ever saw opportunity, corners that had previously been inhabited, and walls that were already there. Rouble Nagi started her teaching career by picking up a paintbrush. She is currently the recipient of the $1 million Global Teacher Prize for 2026. The international and esteemed acknowledgment is an affirmation rather than a start.

She blended the discipline of academia with the flexibility of artistic expression, having been raised in Jammu & Kashmir and schooled in political science and visual arts. Because of this unique combination, she was able to teach in unconventional contexts with remarkable effectiveness. Her work was driven by necessity rather than designs. She transformed run-down alleys into lively learning corridors by painting lectures right into the walls of slums where kids had never set foot in a classroom.

More than 800 community learning centers have been established through her Rouble Nagi Art Foundation, particularly in locations that are typically thought to be inaccessible. These campuses aren’t well-maintained. These are modified areas, frequently a verandah that has been cleared out or a side of a house that has just been painted with alphabets, animals, and time tables. But these murals are more than just decorative. They impart knowledge.

Rouble Nagi Global Teacher Prize Winner Redefines What a Classroom Means

She created environments where kids felt inspired, comfortable, and curious by fusing color and context. This method worked especially well for young students. They had their ordinary surroundings turned into questions and creative inspirations in place of textbooks.

Many slum students no longer felt as isolated from formal schooling because to her main project, Misaal Mumbai. Rewriting what those houses could stand for was more important than merely painting them. Together with literacy, the project restored nearly 1.5 lakh homes by installing solar lights, improving sanitation, and waterproofing roofs. It serves as a model for what development may include when it is motivated by empathy as opposed to just legislation.

Rouble was clearly moved when Crown Prince Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum presented her with the Global Teacher Prize during the World Governments Summit in Dubai. She quickly returned the focus to her objective while standing among dignitaries and leaders in education. She said that the award money would go toward establishing a vocational training center where older pupils, particularly those from underprivileged neighborhoods, could learn useful, employable skills.

Her objectives continue to be both broad and specific. She is considering long-term self-sufficiency in addition to classroom knowledge. This action is especially creative and appropriate in a country where millions of people are still excluded from the formal economy.

As her address was being replayed later, I stopped, captivated by one particular moment—a fleeting glance she gave the kids in the crowd. It wasn’t practiced. It was a simple act of recognition. You brought me here, as if she were saying.

Rouble Nagi has long been a quiet force, but the prize has made her name famous. Her early days of walking into neighborhoods where outsiders were viewed with distrust and where every wall bore decades’ worth of weather, graffiti, and memories are chronicled in her 2022 book, The Slum Queen. It is not an autobiography that begs for pity. Rather, it reads like a collection of incomplete but urgent sketches.

Additionally, she has collaborated with the Indian Army to construct a women’s skill development facility in Tangdhar and a computer lab in Kupwara. These projects, which are situated in politically delicate areas, show how her methodology goes well beyond education and paint. She gives historically fragmented locations cohesion.

Her teaching model has grown extremely adaptable by emphasizing sustainability. Because lessons are ingrained in the environment, they are difficult to overlook and simple to remember. A daily reminder is a multiplication table outside your door. A persistent teacher is represented by a science diagram that is drawn on the wall you pass every morning.

Her approach to art-led learning is transformative as well as inclusive. Once-dropped children were re-enrolled, but more significantly, they remained. Numerous community reports indicate that dropout rates have dramatically decreased in places where her foundation has had an impact. Such an impact is not only quantifiable, but also evident.

Beyond their visual appeal, her murals’ deeper beauty is found in what they stand for: access. They serve as a reminder that education transcends geography, language, and socioeconomic status. Anywhere there is curiosity, it belongs.

She intends to work with governments and non-governmental organizations to duplicate this approach in other developing regions in the upcoming years. She is establishing a feedback loop in which locals become active participants rather than passive recipients of change by utilizing public art and community involvement.

Yes, awards such as the Global Teacher Prize increase attention, but more significantly, they create opportunities for repetition. Rouble’s model is very effective for scale because it is inexpensive and based on locally available materials. It provides maximum engagement even with limited resources.

She has significantly changed how people view slum areas—not by removing their problems, but by highlighting their possibilities. Her work challenges us to reevaluate what constitutes a lesson, who is considered a teacher, and what constitutes a school.

Rouble Nagi has created a new expectation in the process, which is far more durable than murals. One in where all children are valued for their education, development, and acknowledgment, regardless of their zip code.

When I first visited Dubai for Ramadan, I was taken aback by how gradually things started to change. nor the roads, nor the skyline, but the pace. By 3 PM, elevators appeared to be less full, meetings shifted earlier, and inboxes slowed after noon. For everyone, not just those keeping the fast, the entire rhythm of life was rebalanced.

This yearly modification isn’t random. It is included in the UAE’s labor code and is applicable to all private sector employees, irrespective of their job or religious beliefs. All private sector workers are required to work two less hours per day during the holy month in accordance with Cabinet Resolution No. 1 of 2022. Accountants, baristas, designers, security personnel, and even the most overworked CEOs fall under this category.

UAE Ramadan Working Hours: What Employees and Employers Need to Know in 2026

Near the beginning of Ramadan, federal and local governments publish comprehensive circulars in public sector offices. Usually consisting of five-hour days, the timetables are shorter and sometimes include remote work or flexible start times. Despite its administrative complexity, the system represents a cultural mindset that prioritizes balance over sheer productivity.

This does not imply that all industries follow the same path. Due to operational requirements, shift-based operators, security officers, hotel employees, and healthcare professionals may be spared from the regular reduction. However, overtime rights are still legally enforceable even in those positions. Employers are required to provide rest time in lieu of financial compensation for overtime. And those who don’t run the possibility of serious legal issues in addition to negative publicity.

It’s interesting to note that certain zones, such as the ADGM and DIFC, have their own labor laws. Only Muslim workers are eligible for less hours during Ramadan in these jurisdictions. Unless otherwise specified in the contract or regulation, non-Muslim employees continue to work their regular hours. The divergence has generated quiet discussions among lawyers and HR professionals, particularly on justice and consistency.

Most businesses, however, proceed with caution. Many go one step farther and provide staggered shifts, hybrid setups, or shorter Fridays not only to comply but also out of kindness. Even though they are modest, these actions have been especially helpful in maintaining staff morale. It’s difficult to ignore the fact that teams appear more composed, less hurried, and more understanding during this period.

During Ramadan, I once sat through a brainstorming session that finished forty-five minutes early. According to the team lead, the goal was to “give people time to breathe.” The outcome? remarkably comparable levels of production, but the next week saw noticeably higher levels of engagement. That made an impression.

After all, HR departments face more than simply logistical challenges during Ramadan. Our perspective on time and energy is being adjusted for the season. The conscious slowing down becomes a socially acceptable expression of respect in a place like the United Arab Emirates, where life sometimes seems to be moving at a breakneck speed. It’s evident in earlier meetings, in the calmer streets before sundown, and even in the way coworkers check in with one another.

The labor regulation typically restricts the workday in some sectors during Ramadan to six hours, which translates to a 30-hour work week for a five-day timetable. Others may experience 36 hours across six days. Any extra time needs to be fairly rewarded. This rate rises to 150% if it occurs between 10 PM and 4 AM, which is a strong incentive to observe boundaries during fasting.

The rules are remarkably unambiguous. In order to grant the reduced schedule, employers cannot need proof of fasting. Rather than religious status, the policy is linked to work protections. Fairness takes precedence over presumptions in this functional view of inclusion.

Many businesses also use Ramadan as a test period for long-term changes through strategic tweaks. meetings that are hybrid. shortened timetables. performance evaluations focused on results rather than timers. Once thought to be anomalies, these techniques are now commonplace models.

The UAE has positioned itself as both forward-thinking and tradition-minded over the last ten years. Working hours during Ramadan perfectly capture the dichotomy. Even if it’s only for a month, they respect religious practice while also redefining what a positive workplace culture may entail.

It’s easy to interpret this change only in terms of empathy. Indeed, that is incredibly thoughtful. However, it is also very effective. During Ramadan, businesses don’t stop operating. Reports are sent, deals are closed, and cities operate. The intensity is altered, and something more sustainable takes its place.

The UAE makes sure that time, one of our most limited resources, is managed carefully during a holy time by utilizing transparent labor frameworks. Not only is that commendable, but it’s also incredibly successful.

The UAE’s $3 billion investment in hydrogen fuel development represents a change in course as well as a financial commitment. This action marks a shift toward cleaner, longer-lasting value in an area that has historically been shaped by hydrocarbons. Instead of investing in innovation, the government is setting the stage for what it hopes will become a globally traded commodity that will take the place of fossil fuels in the industrial and heavy transportation sectors.

The nation’s goal of being one of the top ten producers of low-carbon hydrogen within the next seven years is at the center of this endeavor. The figures, which show 1.4 million tonnes a year by 2031 and more than ten times that by the middle of the century, convey a sense of urgency encased in plan. If that scale is achieved, the UAE would become a global supplier of decarbonized fuel in addition to a regional leader in sustainable energy.

This goal already has the infrastructure in place to support it. The UAE’s National Hydrogen Strategy is especially creative in how it combines research, production, and trade, from specially designed “hydrogen oases” to a forward-thinking “green corridor” for exports. It is a logistical plan supported by significant financial resources and strengthened by partnerships with nations such as South Korea and Japan.

The projected national hydrogen R&D center, which is expected to open by 2031, is one of the most noteworthy features. This facility, which is intended to serve as a hub for talent, technology, and testing, will concentrate on resolving the issues that continue to impede green hydrogen, primarily storage, cost, and efficiency. It’s a very obvious indication that the nation is spending money on more than just infrastructure.

UAE Pledges $3 Billion to Advance Hydrogen Fuel Research

Businesses like Masdar and Engie are investing billions to build hydrogen plants driven by renewable energy through strategic collaborations. ADNOC’s initiatives in green and blue hydrogen, meanwhile, highlight a concerted effort. They are early-stage scaffolding for an export business that is still in its infancy but is fast maturing; they are not isolated experiments.

The UAE can create green hydrogen at lower energy input costs by utilizing its enormous solar capacity, which makes the long-term economics unexpectedly inexpensive. This climate advantage, along with solid logistics and free trade zones, makes the nation an exceptionally strong contender for the top spot in hydrogen exports.

The worldwide market is still dispersed. Hydrogen transportation is still expensive, and regional regulations vary greatly. However, it seems that the UAE is wagering on the idea that first-mover advantage is important and that influencing the rules is just as effective as abiding by them.

The policy’s intentional focus on long-term resilience is noteworthy. It is not anticipated that hydrogen would produce profits right away. A clean fuel that can act as an energy bridge in situations when batteries are unable to is more akin to a foundational layer. Steelmaking, maritime commerce, and aviation all need alternatives beyond electrification. Because of its special suitability for these industries, hydrogen is extremely adaptable.

I recall a European analyst saying that hydrogen is “too expensive to ignore” during a panel discussion in Abu Dhabi last year. I found it strangely accurate. The penalties of not planning are greater than the costs. The UAE appears to be especially aware of this, planning for both the energy and subsequent economic changes.

Even if the $3 billion amount is noteworthy on its own, the UAE has allocated a larger sum of $163 billion for investments in clean energy by 2050. Hydrogen is undoubtedly the main focus of this larger fund, which also includes solar farms, AI-managed grids, and new battery technology. It is the thread that connects academia, business, and diplomacy.

Some test projects have already started tracking the source and emissions data of hydrogen in real-time by incorporating blockchain technology, which might provide UAE-based exporters an advantage in future carbon-accounting systems. Even though it can seem like a specialized technological feature, major economies are probably going to make it a requirement within the next ten years.

This action raises the UAE’s profile in the context of climate leadership. Its environmental aspirations gained international prominence by hosting COP28, but this hydrogen commitment goes beyond the catchphrases. It combines a corporate strategy, a diplomatic move, and an engineering problem.

Crucially, the change is also domestic. Developing green hydrogen capabilities entails bolstering industrial diversity, generating local employment, and educating a new generation of engineers. For long-term national resilience, that type of forward-thinking investment—where economics and education meet—feels very advantageous.

Undoubtedly, some doubters will remind out that the UAE still makes significant profits from oil exports. That is accurate. However, a transition does not imply an abrupt departure. It entails creating avenues for new energy to emerge alongside established systems, progressively surpassing them in scope and significance.

As of right now, hydrogen is still an energy source that is defined more by promise than by evidence. However, it’s evident that the UAE is getting ready for a time when pipelines and barrels might not be as important as ownership of clean molecules. The plan is really effective, the investment is audacious, and the goal is crystal obvious.
