However, a very effective new <a href="https://www.earth.com/news/antarcticas-ice-collapse-9000-years-ago-mirrors-today-pr25/">study led</a> by the University of Manitoba has switched the attention to a different, more mechanical phenomenon: the ice is tearing itself apart from the inside.
