ACTOR, DIRECTOR, WRITER, POET, WORKSHOP LEADER, PROJECT MANAGER, COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT
Paula Horton is an actor and director of 30 years experience, appearing in repertory theatres and touring companies across the UK, including significant rural touring and community arts work. She has worked with the BBC, Granada and YTV appearing in such programmes as: Band of Gold, This is Personal (The Hunt for the Yorkshire Ripper), Fat Friends, Coronation Street and Emmerdale amongst others. She is Associate Artist with Blaize (www.blaize.uk.net) for whom she was Movement Director on a new play called 'Joan and Jimmie' which toured in early 2019 and also worked extensively with 509 Arts in Calderdale as Community Engagement Manager for the Landlines and Watermarks project in 2017 and as Project Co-ordinator managing the Landlines and Watermarks Transitions Programme 2018 (www.509arts.co.uk/www.landlinesandwatermarks.org). Paula has completed scripting a play and recently won Best Newcomer at the High Five Poetry Awards.
Working with schools and college students and community youth groups has been a significant part of her work over the years, usually writing bespoke projects for specific classes/ years/ subject matter/ groups and often devising new work. Paula has also been a Panel Teacher of Dance and Drama for Education Bradford, Youth Theatre Director for a professional learning disabled theatre company (Full Body and The Voice) and spent three years working on the Creative Partnerships Programme with a primary school in Bradford, who invited her to work with them for a further year after the funding period was complete.
